The sea turtles approach in life is a good metaphor of somatic therapy and wellness.

About Somatic Healing Approach

A sea turtle’s way of being provides us with invaluable lessons towards the path of wellness which is also what I encourage in my practice. Sea turtles teach us to take the time to feel the ground beneath us and to be in no particular rush to get to a ‘destination.’ In water, Sea turtles allow themselves to just ride the waves with openness and curiosity. They have learned that fighting the currents will only lead to hurt and exhaustion. Sea turtles take their home, their shell, with them wherever they go; and so, teach us the value of caring for our body that protects and shelters us. Their strength of spirit encourages us to be patient with ourselves and take time from our busy lives to connect with ourselves, others and nature.

Supporting the Body to Reorganize Naturally

Similarly, somatic healing work provides a safe and profound way forward to releasing long held stress in the body and mind. It is easy to get stuck in the mind trying to figure things out. This coping strategy is similar to going against the currents and translates to continually working hard to try to feel safe.

My role as a practitioner is to create a safe space to attune to what is happening on a somatic level, allowing your body to move how it needs to move, help identifying one’s core needs and partner with you to meet them.

Feeling Connected, Safe and Whole

Being in the present moment with a sense of safety and calm is much more empowering than getting somewhere fast only to be unable to settle or be easily unsettled when unexpected things come your way. We often want to move fast to control and “fix" things.

This approach rarely cultivates wholeness and anything that is long lasting. When you are stressed out it is key to orient to the present moment with curiosity… and even more effective if you have someone supporting you through this time to remain open. Without this connection we are likely to hide in our shell and unfortunately miss out on the healing opportunity of what the present moment could offer us.
